1st Day: Leh (3.500 m) via Khardung-La (5.600 m) to Diskit You drive from Leh to Diskit via the highest driveable road in the world (about 7 hours drive).
2nd Day: Diskit (3.144 m) to Hundar (3.150 m) Walk up to Diskit monastery to witness the morning prayer ceremony. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the monastery through long scattered chortens. The monastery is one the highest point near the village. The more than 500 years old monastery with about 100 monks is the biggest of its kind in the Nubra valley The prayer hall has many statues - one of them holds the head and left arm of Turkish invader believed to be about 5000 years old. It is a nice walk (about 7 km) through an area of sand dunes with snow capped mountains in the background. Here you will have the chance to ride a camel. If you don’t like to walk to Hundar you can go by Jeep and have a stop at the sand dunes or explore them on the next day.
3rd Day: Explore Hundar (3.150 m) and the surrounding The attractive village Hundar has lots of trees and gurgling streams. It is worth to make a sidetrip to a gompa 2 km above the village. It is a nice view and atmosphere up there. Hundar has a lot of nice guest houses with a very familiarly atmosphere where you can relax in the garden of one of the guest houses.
4th Day: Hundar (3.150 m) via Sumur to Panamik (3.183 m) The scenery on the way to Sumur is spectacular with the snow capped Karakorum Mountains in the background. Sumur is a pretty village on the Nubra river with the 150 years old Samstemling monastery. It is a big complex of 7 temples and a lot of young monks. In the next village Tegar is another small monastery. Walk through the village and explore the surroundings. Panamik (3.183 m) is famous for hot springs. Here you can go north as far as it is possible for a foreign visitor in India.
5th day: Panamik (3.183 m) via Khardung-La (5.600 m) to Leh Duration about 7 hours.
